As a child, the dentist can be a scary place.
Some people grow out of this fear, but the thought of the dentist still makes many adults uncomfortable and anxious. At JVR Dental in Walnut Grove, we do our best to make each appointment as comfortable and relaxing as possible, but if you have fear or anxiety of visiting the dentist, sedation dentistry can help you through dental procedures.
Sedation Dentistry
Sedation dentistry, sometimes known as sleep dentistry, actually does not put you fully to sleep. Instead, it keeps you awake, but relaxed. At JVR Dental in Walnut Grove, we perform oral sedation. An hour before your procedure, a sedation medication is taken orally. It will make you feel sleepy and relaxed. Some patients may fall asleep after the sedation pill is taken, but can be awoken easily.
WHY CHOOSE SEDATION DENTISTRY?
Sedation dentistry is best for those who have a strong fear of the dentist and an anxiety that can ultimately prevent them from visiting the dentist. For some this anxiety is so great they may be unable to sit still in the dentist’s chair. It is also recommended for those who have a low pain threshold, bad gag reflex, and experience strong sensitivity. For those with an extensive amount of dental work to be performed in one appointment, sedation dentistry may also be administered. For each of these cases sedation dentistry allows the patient to be comfortable for the duration of the appointment while our staff can safely complete our work.
PREPARING FOR SEDATION DENTISTRY
Before your appointment at JVR, please let us know if you have fear or anxiety of the dentist. We can plan ahead to help you have the most comfortable experience possible. If we feel that sedation dentistry is the best option for you we will advise you and help you to plan for it. This can include avoiding the use of other medications before hand and avoiding food six hours before the appointment.
